Marionette lines lend the face an expression that doesn't match one's actual mood: a hint of sadness or severity that is biologically, not emotionally, founded. At minimal med, we view these lines as a manifestation of tissue descent in the lower facial third and treat them through targeted support of lost substance, rebuilding the volume that was lost. The Vector of Expression
The mouth corner vector fundamentally controls how our face is perceived emotionally. When it points downward, others read sadness or displeasure, independent of actual mood. The fold itself isn't the real problem: it's the volume loss above and lateral to it in interplay with cheek and jaw. That's why at minimal med we rebuild volume in the cheek and jaw region, rather than just filling the fold itself.
The Layered Technique
The crucial difference lies between deep support at the bone and superficial smoothing. We work with a cannula for atraumatic technique and rely on gradual building. This is particularly important here: the mouth area is highly active in expression and does not forgive exaggeration. Each session builds on the previous one until the result is right.

What exactly are marionette lines?
The name comes from marionette puppets, whose movable lower jaw is separated by lines from the mouth corners. These lines develop due to volume loss and tissue laxity in the lower third of the face.
Can the mouth corners also be lifted?
Yes, this is often part of the treatment. Drooping mouth corners can be lifted with hyaluronic acid or through the DAO treatment, relaxing the muscle that pulls the corners downward. Both approaches complement each other ideally.
Does cheek enhancement help with marionette lines?
Indirectly, yes. When the cheeks are built up, the entire tissue is lifted upward and the marionette lines become flatter. I often treat both together.
Does the result look natural?
Yes, when the right technique is applied. I don't simply fill the lines but work with the surrounding tissue to achieve a natural result.
How is this different from nasolabial fold treatment?
Nasolabial folds run from the nose to the mouth corners, marionette lines from the mouth corners to the chin. Often both are treated together to rejuvenate the middle and lower face.
