What are Marionette Lines?
Marionette lines run from the corner of the mouth down towards the chin — like the lines of a puppet. They are the visible consequence of tissue sinking in the lower third of the face. I place hyaluronic acid precisely along the fold and support the lost substance, with a fine needle or cannula and entirely without surgery.
What matters to me is working with the surrounding tissue rather than simply filling the fold. By gently supporting the drooping corners of the mouth, the expression looks friendlier and more relaxed again — instead of unintentionally sad or stern. This way your natural expression is preserved, and you can enjoy a result that is visible right away.
The actual cause often lies higher up: as the cheekbones flatten over the years and collagen declines, the tissue sinks — the fold is the consequence. What is the difference between marionette lines and nasolabial folds?
Both belong to the lower third of the face but run differently: the nasolabial fold runs from the nose to the corner of the mouth. The marionette line runs from the corner of the mouth down towards the chin — it often makes the expression look sterner or sadder than intended. In the consultation we look at which folds bother you and plan accordingly.
What can be done about drooping mouth corners?
When the corners of the mouth sink, the area can be well supported with hyaluronic acid — giving the mouth region structure again. As a complement, the corners of the mouth can be lifted by relaxing the downward muscle pull. Which combination makes sense for you is something we discuss together.
Does cheek augmentation help with marionette lines?
Often indirectly, yes. Marionette lines partly form because the tissue in the midface sinks and pulls the lower third downward. When volume is rebuilt on the cheekbone, it lifts the area beneath along with it — easing the fold. That is why I treat the face as a unit, not each fold in isolation.
Does the treatment look natural?
That is my standard. I don't simply fill the fold; I work with the surrounding tissue — supporting where substance has been lost. This preserves your facial expression and the result looks as if nothing was ever done. I prefer to build up gradually rather than do too much at once.
How long does the result last?
Usually 9 to 12 months. After that, the body slowly breaks down the hyaluronic acid — a touch-up maintains the result. The outcome is visible directly after the treatment and can be dissolved again if needed.
