Nasolabial Folds — Smooth Them by Addressing the Cause
The fold between nose and mouth corner usually doesn't form on the spot — it forms because the cheek loses volume. I take the weight off the midface with hyaluronic acid, using the minimum amount needed. Dr. Felicitas Mrochen in Munich.

What is Nasolabial Fold Treatment?
The nasolabial fold runs from the nose to the corner of the mouth. Instead of simply filling it, I take a cause-oriented approach: I place hyaluronic acid in different consistencies and tissue depths — either to support the cheek from above so the fold lifts with it, or to treat the fold directly. With a fine needle or cannula, without surgery.
Balance is key: a plumped-up fold next to a sunken cheek looks out of place. That is why I use the minimum amount needed and prefer to build up gradually. In the shadow angle at the nose, at the transition to the cheek, I work with the tower technique: there the hyaluronic acid holds particularly long and barely migrates. Even small amounts in this zone often lift and tighten the entire fold along its course.
The cause of both nasolabial and marionette folds often lies elsewhere: as the cheekbones flatten over the years and collagen declines, the tissue sinks — the fold is the consequence. If you want to address the underlying cause too, this can be combined with biostimulators such as Radiesse and Sculptra, which stimulate your own collagen production.

The Midface at a Glance
The nasolabial fold is not an isolated phenomenon. Cheek, mouth corners and midface form a unit — often a cheek augmentation supports the fold from above. If you want to address the underlying collagen loss, biostimulators such as Radiesse or Sculptra can complement the treatment.

I don't fill folds — I take the weight off the midface so the fold smooths itself. A plumped-up fold next to a sunken cheek looks out of place. That is why I often treat the cheek first, work with the minimum amount needed and build up gradually. You can always add more later.

I never look at a nasolabial fold in isolation. I analyze where the heaviness in the midface comes from — usually the cheek — and plan the treatment so that the result looks natural: subtle, balanced, in the minimum amount needed.

Does the nasolabial fold treatment look natural?
When it fits the cheek, yes. Too much material or the wrong technique makes the fold look unnatural — a plumped-up fold next to a sunken cheek looks out of place. That is why I work with the minimum amount needed and prefer to build up gradually.
Is the treatment painful?
The midface region is considerably less sensitive than the lips. The hyaluronic acid products usually contain a local anaesthetic, and on request I numb the area additionally. Most people find the treatment easy to tolerate.
Is the cheek treated first instead of the fold itself?
Often that is the more sensible approach. The nasolabial fold frequently forms because the cheek loses volume and sags downward. If you support the cheek from above, the fold lifts with it — sometimes no direct injection of the fold is needed at all. In the consultation we look at what is causing it in your case.
Are both sides treated at the same time?
Yes, that is the normal case. The face only looks harmonious when both sides are balanced with each other. I therefore treat both nasolabial folds in one session and even out small asymmetries.
How long does the result last?
Usually 9 to 12 months. Because this region moves less than the lips, the body breaks down the hyaluronic acid more slowly than there. The result is visible right after the treatment and can be dissolved again if needed.
What does treating the nasolabial folds cost?
The treatment starts from 299 EUR. The exact price depends on the depth treated and the amount needed — and on whether we treat the fold directly or first support the cheek. In the free consultation I give you a concrete range. If you want to address the underlying collagen loss as well, this can be combined with biostimulators such as Radiesse or Sculptra.
