Jawline contouring has become the most requested treatment among my male patients over the past two years. But I am seeing growing interest from women too — not for a chiselled, angular look, but for a clearer contour that makes the face appear more defined.
What is jawline contouring?
During jawline contouring, hyaluronic acid is injected along the jawline to:
- Define and accentuate the jawline
- Create a smoother transition to the neck
- Reduce a "chipmunk cheeks" appearance
- Slim and sculpt the facial profile
- Correct asymmetries
The result is a more structured, more defined face — without surgery.
Jawline contouring for women vs. men
For women
The goal is typically an elegant, feminine contour. The jawline should be defined but not angular. I often combine the treatment with chin augmentation to create a harmonious V-shaped face.
For men
Men often want a more prominent, angular jawline. Here I use firmer fillers and set different accents. The result should look masculine, but not exaggerated.
Who is jawline contouring suitable for?
The treatment can help with:
- Weak jawline: When the transition from face to neck is undefined
- Volume loss: With age, the jaw area loses definition
- Asymmetries: When one side is shaped differently from the other
- Round face: To create more structure
- Double chin (visual): The distinction becomes clearer
When is the treatment not suitable?
- With significant excess weight (better to lose weight first, then treat)
- With very lax skin (tightening treatments may be more appropriate)
- With unrealistic expectations
How does the treatment work?
- Consultation: Analysis of your facial structure, discussion of your goals
- Marking: I draw the treatment points in advance
- Numbing: Local anaesthesia or numbing cream
- Injection: Usually with a cannula for fewer entry points and more precise placement
- Massage: For even distribution
The treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The result is visible immediately; the final outcome shows after two weeks.
How much filler is needed?
The jawline is a larger area, so more material is required than for the lips, for example:
- Subtle improvement: 1 to 2 ml
- Noticeable definition: 2 to 4 ml
- Comprehensive contouring: 4 to 6 ml (often spread across multiple sessions)
I usually recommend starting with a moderate amount and evaluating the result after four to six weeks. Adding more is always an option.
What does jawline contouring cost?
The cost depends on the amount required:
- Jawline contouring (1 ml): from 299 euros
- Additional ml: from 149 euros
For a complete jawline contouring, you should expect two to four ml, so approximately 450 to 750 euros. During the consultation, I will give you a more precise estimate.
How long does the result last?
The jaw area is a relatively "quiet" zone with little movement. The hyaluronic acid lasts longer here than in more mobile areas such as the lips:
Realistic expectation: 12 to 18 months, sometimes longer. With regular maintenance, a foundation builds up over time, meaning less material is needed for upkeep.
Combining with other treatments
Jawline contouring often works best in combination with:
- Chin augmentation: For a harmonious profile
- Cheek augmentation: For a balanced overall appearance
- Fat-dissolving injections (double chin): When excess fat tissue is a concern
- Masseter treatment: For an overly wide jaw caused by the chewing muscle
Possible side effects
- Common: Mild swelling, tenderness (one to three days)
- Occasional: Small bruises
- Rare: Asymmetry (can be corrected), small lumps
The treatment carries minimal risk when performed by an experienced physician with a thorough understanding of the anatomy.
My advice
Jawline contouring can make the face look significantly more structured and defined — but it is not the right choice for everyone. During a consultation, I analyse your facial proportions and give you an honest assessment of whether the treatment makes sense for you.
Sometimes a different treatment — such as a masseter treatment or fat-dissolving injections — is a better first step. And sometimes the honest answer is: your jawline is already just fine as it is.
